Vestmanneyjar-West Man-Islands are many small islands outside of iceland. We don't live on all of them. You can live at the biggest one called Heimaey, but we do call Heimey Vestmanneyjar. There are two volcanoes on Vestmanneyjar, Eldfell and Helgafell.

Baby-puffin catching

In August, all the baby-puffin jump on the island because they think they are jumping out to the sea. They come only at night because then the lights shine from the lamppost and the baby-puffins think the light are a flash from the sea. All the kids go out at night to catch the baby-puffins and throw them in the sea so they can stay alive.

Puffins
The weather in Iceland it is cold in the winter and it snows sometimes, and when it is snows we often get hail. It also reins a lot in the winter. In the summer it can be very hot, like this summer it was very, very hot. In the summer it feels very hot when it is above 15ªC because it is quite dry.
Iceland lake
Kerió is 270 m long and 170 m wide. The deep of the hole is 55 m and there is a little lake in the botton that is 7 to 14 m in depth. The height of the water depends on the ground water. The lava there is almost the only thing that is around the place but are disappearing under summerhouses. The lava covers 54 km2 and it is believed that there are 12 active volcanoes under the lava the Langjökulsbeltinu.
Kerió is a detonation crater and some people think it is a drain after the mountain collapsed. Once there were held concert on a raft in the middle of the lake. The place is known for the sound it carries, the acoustics.

We have a lot of mountains, like 1/3 of Iceland is the highland. We don't have big trees, there's an old joke about Icelandic forests: if you get lost in an Icelandic forests, what do you do? Stand up! Geysers are called after our biggest geysers, Geysir, which is almost dead now. We have a lot of glaciers and volcanoes. One of our volcanoes always erupts in 10 years waiting (or a least it did :-/).
mountains
There are many geysers in Iceland bith big and small, all of them have hot water which causes of steam. People and many tourists that visit Iceland enjoy going to Gullfoss and Geysir to see the bautiful nature and Geysir itself. Trough the centuries Geysir has gotten a little bit old and weak, and is not that likely to steam up at any time soon but a few times there has been spilled some soap in it which causes it to steam up. Geysir is not the only Geyser in that area so yo won't be disappointed if you will not catch Geysir it self.

Hi may name is Bimir, I live in Iceland. The best food in Iceland is pizza but we eat a lot of nasty food like sheep testicles, sheep faces, haggis and sharks. Don't think that we are some barbarians because we hardly ever eat that stuff. There is only one day a year that we eat that food. And that is our Farmer's day in February.

Ash Wednesday!
  • Ash Wednesday is a tradition in Iceland!
  • Ash Wednesday is one of the three special days, in February or March is always on Wednesday!

  • In the olden days, it was the custom to hang colorful bags filled with ash on people's backs while they were unaware of it! The name comes from that.

The National Independence Day

The Icelandic independence day is on 17th of June. There are festivals in almost all town in Iceland. In the year 1944, Icelandic got their Independence from Denmark.
