We are including photographs for
you to enjoy. Our first photograph is a picture Mrs. Biltucci took last
week of our school - Remington Elementary School.
The tower on the right side with the circular window is part of our
school library. As you can see, the leaves on the tree in the front
are changing as fall weather is here. Our classroom is on the second
floor about 50 feet to the right of the tower.

Located in Ilion is the famous Remington Arms factory
that produces a variety of Remington firearms. It is located a short
distance away from our school. This is an older photo of the factory. |

We live in the beautiful Mohawk River Valley in central New York State. Our second picture is of the Ilion Marina located on the Mohawk River. In the back ground and almost in the middle of the picture, you can see part of our school. (Look for the blue arrow.) |

Naturally, we just had to include a picture of the Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty was a gift from the people of France and was completed on October 28, 1886. It still stands in New York Harbor today as a symbol of the freedoms we cherish as Americans. "The seven rays of Liberty's crown symbolize the seven seas and seven continents of the world. Liberty holds a tablet in her left hand that reads "July 4, 1776" (in Roman numerals), our Independence Day, the day we celebrate our freedom from British rule. |
|
The next picture is a famous landmark and tourist attraction called Mount Rushmore. It is located in the state of South Dakota. The faces are of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt. These men were all Presidents of the United States and outstanding leaders of their times. Milllions of people visit this monument every year. http://encarta.msn.com/media_461513365_761553602_-1_1/Mount_Rushmore_National_Memorial.html |

We also included a picture of the White House where the President of the United States, George W. Bush, lives with his wife. They have two daughters who visit regularly. The White House is located in Washington, D.C. |
|
Finally, our last picture is a picture of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. Washington, D.C. is the capital city of the United States. (D.C. stands for District of Columbia.) |

Location
The United States is located in the northern hemisphere. Our northern neighbor is Canada and our southern neighbor is Mexico. The USA has 50 states, 48 are connected and then we have Alaska to the northwest of the lower 48 states and Hawaii located in the Pacific Ocean. Government:
Our government is a democracy that has three branches/parts where voters
(Must be 18 years old to vote) choose representatives to act in their
interests. We found a wonderful site that summarizes the information
especially for students at
http://bensguide.gpo.gov/3-5/government/branches.html The United States
Constitution is a document which establishes the basic principles
of the American government and all three branches of our government
are guided by this document. We have many more documents important to
our country's history, but this one is often considered the most important. Legislative Branch - "The legislative branch of government is made up of the Congress and government agencies, such as the Government Printing Office and Library of Congress that provide assistance to and support services for the Congress. Article I of the Constitution established this branch and gave Congress the power to make laws. Congress has two parts, the House of Representatives and the Senate." http://bensguide.gpo.gov/3-5/government/national/legislative.html |
|
Judicial Branch
- "The judicial branch of government is made up of the court system.
The Supreme Court is the highest court in the land. Article III of the
Constitution established this Court
and all other Federal courts were created by Congress. Courts decide
arguments about the meaning of laws, how they are applied, and whether
they break the rules of the Constitution." |

Geography:
Our geography
is varied in the United States as you can see by the map. Climate: We have four seasons - winter, spring, summer and fall. Winter begins in December; spring begins in April, summer in June, and fall in September. We love the snow of winter, the first flowers of spring, swimming in the summer, and the leaves changing in fall. Usually in summer our temperature averages anywhere from 80 degrees Fahrenheit to above 90 degrees Fahrenheit. In winter we sometimes have temperatures below zero degrees Fahrenheit. |
| Here in New York we have the Adirondack
Mountains and Catskill Mountains, which are a part of the Appalachian
Mountains. We also have a variety of lakes along with two Great Lakes
to our west. |

Our Daily Life in School:
Our school day begins at 8:20am and ends at 2:30pm. We go to school from the first part of September to about the end of June. We celebrate various holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. There are other holidays we also celebrate like Columbus Day, Veterans Day(A day when we honor the men and women in our armed services - past and present), and Presidents Day where we honor President George Washington and President Abraham Lincoln. We have no school on these days. We also have a week off in February and another one in April. The subjects we have every day are math, science, reading, social studies, writing, and spelling. Each day we also have classes in one of the following: physical education, music, art, or a class in our school library. We don't wear uniforms and can wear anything to school as long as it is appropriate. |
