Welcome to Wales Wales is part of the United Kingdom, which is made up of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and WALES. We have our own Welsh language, which is reflected in some of the place names on the map of Wales. We are a nation famous for our choirs, singing, mountains, valleys, coalmines, castles and rugby. Our school is 5 miles/8 kilometres from the seaside town of Porthcawl. |

Our town is called Bridgend and it used to be a market
town. We are 25 miles/40 kilometres from Cardiff which is the capital
city of Wales.

This is Ogmore Castle, which is about 5 miles from
our school. The stones used to be used by the local people to cross
the river.

On March 1st we celebrate St. David's Day - the patron Saint of Wales.
We have an Eisteddfod which is a tradition of Wales. |

On March 1st the girls wear traditional Welsh costume,
which consists of a red flannel skirt, shawl and tall black hat. Nowadays
the older children and boys usually wear a red rugby shirt to show their
loyalty to Wales.
We also wear a yellow daffodil, which is our national flower. This is a picture of some children in our school wearing their National costume with pride. This photo was taken March 1st 2004. You can also see our locality behind them so that you can see the type of houses we live in. |
|
Our school day starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 3.30 p.m. with an hour
for lunch. We have a number of after school clubs such as dance, computers,
rugby and netball until 4.15 p.m. |
|
The climate in Wales is somewhere in the middle - not too hot and not too cold (although we are known to have a lot of rain). We have fantastic scenery from our beaches to the mountains and valleys. |
|
We also love the game of rugby and this is a picture
of inside the Millenium Stadium, which is in Cardiff. It is also used
for football matches and pop concerts.
